| This career is located to the south of Casablanca, the excavations started there in 1941 by Neuville and Ruhlman. |
Exploitation Works of the career brought successively to light several cavities: cave of the bears, cave of the rhinoceros, cave of the elephant.... This site became famous for the discovery in 1955 of a mandible fragmentary in the cave of the littorines, which is known under the name of Atlanthrope of "Sidi Abderrahman" dating from more than 200 000 years. The lithic industry delivered by this site is composed of thousands of cut stone tools characteristic of Acheulian associated |
with a rich fossil fauna. This prehistoric inheritance is known on a worldwide scale, but remains threatened by the extension of the urban zone in Casablanca. |
