A red city in a red ground: this is how Khenifra appears when it is approached from the south or from the East. Practical Stage between Fez and Marrakesh.
Built at the altitude of 830 m on the two banks of the Oum er-Rbia wadi, Khenifra has a strategic location on the Atlas road and preserved its old aspect of military city (at the end of the 17th century, Moulay Ismail had built there a Kasbah to protect it, as well as a bridge).
