| The Phoenicians era |

| The literary tradition reported by Pline the ancient locates the beginning of the Phoenician presence on the Moroccan coasts towards the end of the XIIth century (B.C), and placing Lixus at the top of the first foundations of occident. |
| However, the archaeological traces of a Phoenician occupation do not exceed the first third of the VIIIth century. With Lixus, Mogador, regarded as the most extreme point in occident, was very attended during the Phoenician era. Recent researches have abundantly enriched the map of Morocco of that age by the discovery of new sites, on the Mediterranean littoral in particular. |
