These attempts will succeed in 788 A.C by the appearance of the Idrissides dynasty which is the first Islamic dynasty of Morocco. The man who was behind this political exploit was the Sherif (saint) Idriss ibn Abdellah who descends upon the prophet. Escaped from the massacre perpetrated by the Abbasides in the end of al Fakh battle close to |
| Makkah (786 A.C) he settles in Walili (volubilis). Supported by the Awraba to which were going to join other Amazigh tribes, he starts creating a kingdom. Successively he subjected Tamesna (area of Salé) Fazaz (area of Azrou-Aïn Leuh) then gains Telemcen. The Imam Idrisse died in 791 A.C assassinated by an emissary of the Abbaside Caliph. His son Idrisse II, born two months later, was recognized solemnly at the age of 12. Very early he shows political affinities. Thus he builds the city of Fez and extends his power over all Morocco. For the first time the Amazigh tribes, until then independent, were unified under one Muslim authority. |
