| Berbers originating from the Eastern Moroccan territories, Beni Merine succeeded to the Almohades in 1269 A.C. |
The heritage of their predecessors was heavy to manage and maintain, thus they will mainly concentrate their efforts on the Moroccan territory. The Merinides dynasty lasted for nearly two centuries. The end of their reign will be marked by the division of the country into two kingdoms: the kingdom of Fez and the kingdom of Marrakech, and by the Iberian occupation of some Moroccan strategic places such as Ceuta 1415 A.C, Ksar Seghir 1458, Asila, Tangier 1471 and finaly Mellilia in 1497. |
