| Ksar Seghir (or Ksar Sghir) is located on the Mediterranean littoral between Tangier at Sebta, 33 km from Tangier.... |
Used successively as military fortress and army port the troops heading to Spain, by the Almoravides which baptize it:Ksar Mesmouda, Almohades:Ksar Al Majaz, and Mérinides: Ksar Al Majar... In 1287 the sultan Abou Yaakoub Youssef ordered the reinforcement of Ksar Sghir and strengthened it with a circular enclosure crowned with bastions of monumental gates. However, his efforts did not prevent the Portuguese from occupying the city in 1458. At the beginning of the XVIIth century, the |
port was used for unloading Moorish refugees driven chased from Andalusia. The Merinide enclosure is protected by 29 circular towers with three monumental gates: Bab Al Bahr, Bab Sebta, and Bab Fez. |
| PS : The site is very appreciated by the habitants of Tangier during Sundays, which take advantage from its beach and its numerous fish restaurants. |
