| The site of Kouass is located on the right bank of the Gharifa wadi, approximately 25 km to the south of Tangier, and few kilometres to the north of Asilah. |
The Gharifa wadi, the proximity of a natural port, the presence of fertile lands and loam pits allowed the human installation on the site of Kouass since the antiquity.
The archaeological excavations brought to light several potter furnaces from pre-roman era which produced amphoras and ceramics during a long period spreading from the VIth to the Ist century B-C as well as salting factories from the imperial era I-IInd century A-C. |
