| The National Museum of Ceramics in Safi is located in an old kasbah originating from the Almohade era, through centuries, it had many assignments. |
Between 1508 and 1541, the Portuguese equipped it with the large tower, from where it is possible to notices the cupboards of Portuguese King Emmanuel. Under the Saadian dynasty, the sultan Moulay Zidane equipped the fortress with Dutch canons, marvellous specimens of the renaissance art. Towards the XVlllth century, the monument became a place of stay for the Alaouites kings and princes. Under French Protectorate, it was used as the civil Controller seat. After the independence, the monument successively sheltered several administrations to become, in 1990, the national museum of Ceramics. The National Museum of Ceramics is composed of several sections: ceramics collection from Fez, Meknes, Safi, green glazed ceramics from Meknes and Tamgrout, ceramics of Tafilalet.... |
