Marrakech, the Koutoubia Mosque - a Mosquée de la Koutoubia Raised by the Almohades in the end of the XIIth century (1157), on the site of an Almoravide mosque built a century before, it is a genuine masterpiece of the Moorish art, which makes the pride of Marrakesh since eight centuries. Its name (koutoub means "books" in Arabic) is the unique trace of the book market which was held here at the time. Its minaret, with perfect proportions, rises to 77 Meters height. sultans). Surmounted by a 16m skylight equipped with a dome, which supports a capped arrow of four copper balls. Recent renovation works of the external frontage and the minaret were carried out, from 1995 to 1998. |
