| This building was offered to the United States of America in 1821 by the Sultan Moulay Sliman, and will remain the consulate of the United States for 135 years. |
It was the first property acquired by the USA abroad. In 1976 after years of abandonment the building was rehabilitated in art museum. Around a central Moorish patio, it shelters a collection of paintings and watercolours carried out in Morocco from the XVIIth to the XXth century, a general library in English language and a library specialized in the history of Morocco and North Africa. |
