| The ramparts are approximately 7.5 km long marked out of 130 towers, 19 bastions and bored of five gates. |
5 gates: Bab Al-Kasbah, Bab Zorgan, Bab Targhount, Bab Oulad Bounouna and Bab El khemis, are bent and attest of their defensive nature. The most significant by its dimensions and its situation is the gate known as "the Kasbah"; it is located ten meters from the Kasbah, on the Eastern side. It is a bastioned gate, flanked by two massive towers. From the Southern side, the city is served by the gate known as "Bab Zorgane". This gate as well as the ones called "Bab el Khemis" and "Bab |
Oulad Bounouna" are all bent and have an open sky hall. Bab Zorgane and Bab Sensla are dominated by bastioned towers and a covered way. "Bab Targhount", of more reduced size than the preceding ones, has on the contrary a covered hall. The Kasbah occupies the north-eastern part of Taroudant. It is equipped with square towers of much more reduced size than those of the great rampart. |
